1.1 Dual-diagonal Braking System

Fig. 1-1 is a schematic diagram of the dual-diagonal hydraulic brake system. The master cylinder, operated mechanically by the brake pedal, creates pressure in the hydraulic system. At the wheels, the hydraulic pressure acts on the calipers or wheel cylinders to mechanically apply the brakes. The use of hydraulics makes it possible for the driver to generate high braking forces with a comparatively small amount of effort.
