Replacing Catalytic Converter Heat ShieldA damaged or missing heat shield can be repaired or replaced without replacing the entire catalytic converter. The replacement heat shield is Volkswagen part no. 191 253 243C. The heat shield is stainless steel. Repair or replacement requires welding with a MIG welder (92% Argon/8% Oxygen or 97.5% Argon/2.5% Carbon Dioxide) and stainless steel welding rod. Repairs with conventional arc or acetylene torch welding will damage the heat shield. |
