1.2 Emission Controls

Emission controls are used on all models with gasoline engines and on the ECO diesel to reduce harmful exhaust emissions. All U.S. gasoline models have a catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor system. The ECO diesel has a catalytic converter. U.S. models with the Digifant engine management system include a crankcase control valve (Fig. 1-2) as part of the crankcase emission control system.

California versions of the 2.0 liter CIS-E Motronic engine, and all Canada models with automatic transmission, have an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.
