5.1 Air Flow Measurement and Fuel MeteringThe throttle valve, which is operated by the accelerator cable, regulates the amount of air drawn in by the engine. The most basic function of the fuel injection system is to measure that incoming air and precisely meter a proportional amount of fuel. The components responsible for air flow measurement and fuel metering are the air flow sensor and the fuel distributor. The throttle valve is adjusted at the factory. It does not require routine adjustment and should not be used to adjust idle speed. The procedure below for the throttle valve's basic adjustment is provided in the event that the factory adjustment has been altered. The air flow sensor plate can be adjusted if it is found to be out of alignment. After the adjustment, idle speed and idle mixture (% CO) will need to be adjusted also. The fuel distributor is precisely calibrated when it is manufactured and, except for adjusting system pressure, it cannot be adjusted or repaired. |
